Chapter 1

I yawned as I stretched out on my bed. Fluttering my wings as I sat up. The sunlight was peeking through my window. Today was a special day to me. Today I would be leaving. Fairy-village to head out into the big o'world. I bounced off my bed as the excitement grew in me. I quickly threw some clothes on and ran downstairs to the kitchen table where my family sat.

"Someone seems a little too excited," my father said as he looked over his book at me. "Today is a very exciting day," I said as a smile spread across my face. My mother frowned. She didn't like the idea of me going out into the big bad world, as she called it. Ever since the stories of werewolfs, vampires, witches, and humans were told to me, I've always been curious of them. Growing up, I done a lot of research on all of the other "creatures" in the world. Most stories and books told of others as monsters. I still had to see for my own eyes.

"Maybe we should send Carl with her," my mothers words interrupted my thinking. "What," I said more then asked. My mother shot a glance at my brother, Carl. Who was shoving food into his mouth. He hurriedly swallowed his food and spoke. "Sure mother, I'd love to leave my friends and plans to go out where the monsters are cause my lovely younger sister just has to see one." His voice was deep and full of sarcasm. I frowned at him. My mother shook her head and raised to her feet. "Please be careful." Her words were soft and sweet. I saw a tear slide down her cheek as she turned and headed for the other room. "Carla, please be careful and call to reassure your mother," my fathers voice was soft as he spoke, "Carl, if anything goes wrong, call me." Carl nodded as he stuffed his mouth full once again. I was too excited to eat. "I'm going to go pack," I said as I turned and headed for my room.

I had been waiting for this day for what seemed like forever. I grabbed my suitcase and started packing. Grabbing things I knew I would need. Clothes, phone charger, toiletries... My hand rested on a photo of my family. My mother didn't like the idea of her daughter going out to where the other creatures were. I've done my research, I reassured her over and over. I closed my suitcase after I made sure I had everything I needed.

There was a soft knock on my door. I turned around to my mother standing in my doorway. "Please be careful." Her eyes were poofy and red from crying. "I will.." my voice faded towards the end. "I don't know what I would do if I were to loose you or your brother." Tears started sliding down her cheeks once again. I walked over to her and hugged her. "I promise, if anything starts to get out of hand, we'll come home..." The last word was almost a whisper as tears formed in my eyes. I hated seeing my mother cry.

She pulled away and smiled at me. "Don't forget to call." She kissed my forehead and then left the room. I walked over to the nightstand was and grabbed the photo of my family. Quickly, I took the back off and slid the photo into my suitcase. I was going to miss my mother and father but we weren't planning on being gone for long. Maybe just a week.

"Carla !" I heard my brother yell from down stairs. It was time to go. To the world out there. Beyond Fairy village. All of a sudden I started to get nervous. Just breath Carla, I told myself. I grabbed my suitcase and headed towards the door. Stopping in the frame, I turned to face my room. Everything in it's place, everything so perfect. The window slightly open to let a breeze in. The sun shining through the opened curtains. I was going to miss it, but we weren't going to be gone for long.

I headed for the car where my brother was waiting. My parents were standing by the car with him. We said our goodbyes and once again my mother was crying. We all promised her it would be all okay. We piled our stuff into the car and climbed in after hugging our parents. It was really happening. We were heading out to the big o'world. My brother put the car in reverse and we backed out of the drive and took off.

"Well here we go," he said as he turned the volume up of some random music. I smiled at him. He was the typical annoying big brother but he was there when I needed him. Well more like when I didn't need him. It was mothers idea of course tho. I rolled my window down and leaned back in my seat. We were really doing it. Just my brother and I.
